A. APA Style & Formatting
❑ Page headers on every page. Includes the paper title (left-justified) and page

❑ Date spelled out on the title page (ex: January 1, 2020).
❑ Font is Times New Roman, 12 point, for all text.
❑ Double-space all text.
❑ First line of paragraphs indented ½ inch.
❑ Blank lines deleted.
❑ Headings for each section (topic) as Level 1 headings (bold, centered).
❑ Headings are on the same page as the text following it. Here’s how:

❑ Quotes and paraphrases are cited. Textbook citations require page numbers.

B. Mechanics
❑ Use spell check and Grammarly before submitting the paper.
❑ Spelling errors – corrected. “I” must be capital (not “i’”).
❑ Contractions removed– spell out both words.
❑ NO ALL CAPS. No bold words. Also, do not capitalize common words.
❑ Punctuation: insert space after comma and period (not before).
❑ Commas inserted in long sentences where there would be a natural pause.
❑ Numbers less than 10 are spelled out. 10 and greater are numerals.
❑ Read your paper OUT LOUD before submitting – find and fix any errors.
❑ Run-on sentences – break into 2 sentences.
❑ Incomplete sentences – add words to make a complete sentence.
❑ Awkward phrases – re-word the sentence.
❑ Third person voice only. Do not use first-person words “I, we, me, us” or

❑ REALTOR® is a trademarked term. Capitalize and use the ® registration mark.
C. Content
❑ Introduction paragraph. Thesis statement is the last sentence of the

❑ Headings above each section. Headings correspond with the assignment
instructions, prompts, and/or grading rubric.
❑ 2 or 3 paragraphs required for each section.
❑ Paragraphs have 5 sentences.
❑ Each paragraph includes 1 citation (except the introduction and conclusion).
❑ Conclusion paragraph. Re-word the thesis statement in different words.
Summarize the paper by re-stating the introduction (in different words).
