Answer the qustions below.

When you hear the word “power” is often associated with something negative. We tend to think of bad politics or bad influencers. However, power can be good too. Power is a person or group’s potential to influence another person’s or group’s behavior. According to our reading, David McClelland found that the real driver for a leader’s performance was the leader’s need for power or the desire to control and influence others or to be responsible for others. He also discovered that an individual’s powers need could be directly positively if the leaders could postpone immediate gratification and not act impulsively which is known as leadership motive pattern. Power is an absolute sense is neither good nor bad, what matters most is how the power is used.

Contemporary organizations face many issues such as virtual organizations integrating employees, communities of practice, and the effects of restricting on performance. Virtual organizations are becoming the future. These organizations contract out almost all of its functions except for the company name and managing the coordination amongst the contractors. You can see virtual organizations in many of the gig economies such as contract drivers for Amazon, Uber, Lyft, and a host of others.

Integrating employees virtually, with other divisions, or functional areas may pose many concerns for the organization. It all boils down to communication. It is important for managers to understand the tasks or functions that are part of the organization, although, it may not be in specific area. The understanding does not have be detailed, but a good overview is necessary. This understanding may lead to a cross-functional team that can be highly effective.

Communities of practice helps to integrate employees and creates an informal structure. This group may not meet regularly, however, their joint experience and interest draws them together.

Last, the effects of restructuring on performance can be challenging. This process can be stressful and decrease employee motivation if the changes are poorly communicated. Most important, restructuring efforts must focus on positioning the organization for the future and its success.

Explain this statement based on your personal experience, “influential people have power but not all powerful people have influence”

.

There was a manager of mine that bought a great experience and expertise that had a good influence on everyone while they were great a leader other as well. Of course you can more easily influence people with power but I noticed as time went on, when people use their powers, they tend to overestimate their capabilities and make decisions that aren’t straightforward. They needed to learn that having a powerful force must be used careful as influence can change for the worst.

2-

In your own words explain the statement above.

Office politics is represented by the way the power is shared among people in the workplace. People who know they are smarter than most, know they work hard will avoid office politics whenever possible. If you’ve been around long enough to know what really goes on and you’ll have a better way for knowing how to deal with people likes to use politics in the office. Interpersonal influence refers to a convincing ability to affect how and what other people think. To do this, you need to understand them and their own personal agendas.

Describe someone who has power and how was it used? What type of power did they possess? In your opinion, does money equate to power? Explain. Can technology empower employees? Explain.

An example of someone who has power is the local government. They used their authority to collect taxes. I think the local government possess position power becasue position power is similar to authority. In my opinion I do believe money equate to power. The reason that money holds such a power is that it provides people with power to do what they want to do. An example is Bill Cosby. Power played a big part in Cosby’s sexual misbehavior. Cosby uses his success as a racial pioneer and one of America’s favorite television dad to target victims who were typically younger starstruck women who were excited to meet him and get help with their careers. I believe technology can empower employees because Technology should help foster a more efficient, creative and collaborative environment at your company. Technology should also make it easier for employees to work remotely and achieve a healthy work-life balance.

4- Explain this statement based on your personal experience, “influential people have power but not all powerful people have influence”.

Influence entails actually securing the consent of others to work with you in accomplishing an objective, and many powerful people can’t do that. Power is converted into influence when the target individual consents to behave according to the desires of the power holder.
