Description
Data collection for your quality improvement analysis should start this week if you haven’t already started. Remember, you will need 21 days of data for this analysis.
Describe the improvement you will be working on.
Include a minimum of one scholarly reference indicating the importance of this improvement.
urpose:
The definition of quality improvement, as defined by QSEN (2003) is “Using data to monitor the outcomes of care processes and using improvement methods to design and test changes to continuously improve the quality and safety of health care systems.†The BSN prepared nurse is expected to understand quality improvement, monitor outcomes, encourage improved processes, and conduct improvement methods to promote positive outcomes. One model of conducting quality improvement is the Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA) cycle. The purpose of the Quality Improvement Analysis is to have the student implement and evaluate a quality improvement project.
Process:
Through this assignment, the student learns how to
Develop an aim statement
Implement change using a model for improvement (PDSA cycles)
Collect data to measure change/improvement
Report data using charts or graphs
Guidelines:
Students will choose something about themselves that they would like to improve.
Ideas could include increasing exercise, studying more hours, drinking more water daily, eating healthier, or whatever would be important to the student.
The student conducts the improvement for three PDSA cycles, one cycle per week over three (3) weeks, recording data to measure the change.
The student completes one PDSA document for each cycle.
The student creates one graph with a data table to demonstrate three weeks of data points.
Submit three (3) PDSA cycle documents and one graph with a data table to Canvas by the due date.
