Assignment Outline
Semester 1 2021
Due: Week 7 – Friday, 4 pm – softcopy to Turnitin
Weighting: 35% of the paper in total. This is a group assignment.
Maximum length: The assignment is the form of a report – 6500 words
excluding title pages, table of content, executive summary, references, and
appendices.
This is a group assignment and groups will be formed on week two. The group will also be
scheduled to present their selected case in the class.
Part I
The aim of this part of the assignment is to explore the concepts, processes, and techniques
that comprise IT services acquisition in a real organization.
For this part, you must choose an existing medium to big sized business in New Zealand. The
organization should have an IT department or unit. Then, you are encouraged to engage
with the real application of service provision in this real business.
You need to write a CASE STUDY report that tackles the following aspects related to IT
Service Science concepts and IT Management Functions and IT Architecture Management:
a) Identification of the (business) service and service provider.
b) Identification of the role of IT for supporting business activities.
c) Description of the IT service in supporting the (business) service and the IT service
provider.
d) Description of the role of IT Service Management in the company.
e) Identification of the IT Value in your case study.
f) The identification of the basic four IT architectural elements: data, processes,
functions and IT service in your case study. Include some examples of IT processes,
data, and functions in the organization.

Part II
The aim of this part of the assignment is to describe processes and techniques that comprise
IT services acquisition in a real organization.
For this part, you must work on the organization that you have already analyzed in Part I.
Again, you are encouraged to engage with the real application of service provision in this
real business.
You are required to address the following aspects related to IT processes and techniques:
a) Choose two of the following ITSM processes in your selected organization: Change
Management, Incident Management, Problem Management, and Release
Management.
b) Provide a brief description of each of the selected ITSM processes.
c) Identify and describe the steps in each of the selected ITSM processes.
d) Illustrate the steps in each of the selected ITSM processes using a case study scenario
in your organization.
Part III
The aim of the third part is to describe one of the four different types of service lifecycle in
the context of your organization and conclude your case study report.
You are required to address the following aspects related to the lifecycles of enterprise IT:
e) Choose one of the four major lifecycles of enterprise IT:
i. Application Service Lifecycle
ii. Infrastructure Service Lifecycle
iii. IT Asset Lifecycle
iv. Technology Product Lifecycle
f) Describe the selected lifecycle in the context of your organization. Please note that
you don’t need to contact your organization in order to do this since you should have
now enough information to explain one of these lifecycles.
To conclude you need to include some recommendations related to IT Service Provision.
