Part 1 Assignment: Introduction to Quantitative Analysis: Visually Displaying Data Results

In this week’s Discussion, you determined the benefits of visually displaying your data. You also learned that different types of data require different visual displays to adequately “tell the story” of the phenomena. Although the Discussion was difficult, what is even more difficult and challenging will be deciding on how best to display the data for presentation purposes. As you move further along in your dissertation or doctoral study, you will find that displaying data will be critical component in presenting a robust and clear capstone project.

For this

Introduction to Quantitative Analysis

Assignment, you will explore how to visually display data for optimal use.To prepare for this Assignment:

Review this week’s Learning Resources and consider visual displays of data.

For additional support, review the Skill Builder: Unit of Analysis and the Skill Builder: Levels of Measurement, which you can find by navigating back to your Blackboard Course Home Page. From there, locate the Skill Builder link in the left navigation pane.

Using the SPSS software, open the Afrobarometer dataset or the High School Longitudinal Study dataset (whichever you choose) found in this week’s Learning Resources.

From the dataset you chose, choose one categorical and one continuous variable and perform the appropriate visual display for each variable.

Once you visually display each variable, review Chapter 11 of the Wagner text to understand how to copy and paste your output into your Word document.

For this Assignment:Write a 2- to 3-paragraph analysis of your results and include a copy and paste of the appropriate visual display of the data into your document.Based on the results of your data, provide a brief explanation of what the implications for social change might be. Early in your Assignment, when you relate which dataset you analyzed, please include the mean of the following variables. If you are using the Afrobarometer Dataset, report the mean of Q1 (Age). If you are using the HS Long Survey Dataset, report the mean of X1SES.Use appropriate APA format. Refer to the APA manual for appropriate citation.

BM SPSS Statistics Version 27 License Code

Version 27 is recommended if you are using one of the following Operating Systems:

Windows 10

Windows 8

Windows 7

OS Big Sur 11.0

OS Catalina 10.15

OS Mojave 10.14

OS High Sierra 10.13

OS Sierra 10.12

Copy the following code into the “Enter Codes” screen in the SPSS installation wizard – d3704aa09c38f7262d2f

** If you encounter an error when copying and pasting the SPSS license code, please try manually entering the code before contacting Customer Care for installation and licensing support.

From the General Social Survey dataset found in this week’s Learning Resources, use the SPSS software and choose one continuous and one categorical variable Note: this dataset will be different from your Assignment dataset).

As you review, consider the implications for positive social change based on the results of your data.

Part 2 Separate Documents: Assignment: Introduction to Quantitative Analysis: Descriptive Analysis

In this Assignment, you will differentiate between the proper use of summary statistics for categorical and continuous level data. In this exercise, you will explore what output is provided for each of these variables and provide some meaning from these statistics for your reader. The ability to place the statistics into a context that your reader understands and can make sense of is a highly desirable skill.

For this

Introduction to Quantitative Analysis: Descriptive Analysis

Assignment, you will examine the same two variables you used from your Week 2 Assignment and perform the appropriate descriptive analysis of the data given.

To prepare for this Assignment:

Review this week’s Learning Resources and the

Central Tendency and Variability

media program.

For additional support, review the Skill Builder: Measures of Central Tendency for Continuous Variables, Skill Builder: Standard Deviation as a Measure of Variability for Continuous Variables and the Skill Builder: Measures of Central Tendency and Variability for Categorical Variables, which you can find by navigating back to your Blackboard Course Home Page. From there, locate the Skill Builder link in the left navigation pane.

Using the SPSS software, open the Afrobarometer dataset or the High School Longitudinal Study dataset from your Assignment in Week 2.

Choose the same two variables you chose from your Week 2 Assignment and perform the appropriate descriptive analysis of the data.

Once you perform your descriptive analysis, review Chapter 11 of the Wagner text to understand how to copy and paste your output into your Word document.

Write a 2- to 3-paragraph analysis of your descriptive analysis results and include a copy and paste your output from your analysis into your final document.

Based on the results of your data, provide a brief explanation of what the implications for social change might be. Early in your Assignment, when you relate which dataset you analyzed, please include the mean of the following variables. If you are using the Afrobarometer Dataset, report the mean of Q1 (Age). If you are using the HS Long Survey Dataset, report the mean of X1SES.

Use appropriate APA format, citations and referencing. Refer to the APA manual for appropriate citation.

IBM SPSS Version 28 Installation and Registration
These instructions apply to students and part-time faculty. Full-time faculty and staff who use
Walden issued computers are required to download SPSS from the Company Portal and open
a ServiceNow request for assistance with licensing.
The following set of instructions will walk you through installing IBM SPSS Statistics on
your computer. Version 28 is compatible with all supported Windows operating systems
(Windows 7 and newer).
We suggest that you first obtain the SPSS license code before you begin
downloading SPSS.
Students can obtain the SPSS license code from this link:
https://alaureatena.sharepoint.com/sites/walden-university/studentdocuments/spss/Pages/default.aspx
Faculty can obtain the SPSS license code from this link:
https://dvi.sharepoint.com/sites/walden-faculty-spss
You may be prompted to enter your Office 365 credentials.
Simply copy and paste the code into a Word document so that you have it available
when prompted to enter it at the end of the installation sequence. You can always enter
the code later; however, having it on hand to enter during the installation is much easier.
SPSS v28 Windows 64-bit install – https://cdnmedia.waldenu.edu/2dett4d/software/IBM/SPSS/v28/SSC64bit_28.0.1.0Win_ML.exe
This installation requires at least 1GB of free space on your computer. Because of the
large size of the installation file, it is recommended that you are on a DSL or better
internet connection. Even with a strong internet connection, the installation may still take
up to 30 minutes or longer. While the tool is installing, you may continue to work within
other applications on your computer.
If you are using a Mac operating system, you may follow these instructions.
Note: Java Runtime Environment must be installed on your computer in order for SPSS
to run. If you experience any issues with SPSS or if you are prompted, you may install
Java SE Runtime Environment 7u45 from the Oracle website.
