Hello, we have worked together in the past, and would like to know if you can help me with a sociology writing assignment? Its a Drug Addiction research paper, I’m going to submit the requirments for the paper, and I will attach what I have already wrote that you can use, and add to it, let me know if you can do it 🙂

Drug Addiction
Drug addiction affects the lives of millions of Americans every year and kills thousands.
This is a contemporary issue that has had an affect not just on today’s society buy many before
also. In the United States today Almost 21 million Americans have at least one addiction, and
drug overdose deaths have more than tripled since 1990 according to the Addiction Center
resources. Drug addiction does not only affect the individual’s life that is using it, but also those
around them, and it could have harmful consequences. Aside from ruining peoples lives it also
effects as a nation “Abuse of tobacco, alcohol, and illicit drugs is costly to our Nation, exacting
more than $740 billion annually in costs related to crime, lost work productivity and health care.”
As reported by the official government website drugabuse.gov.
The influential social variables that surround drug addiction are shaped by different
factors, such as trends in youth culture, the mass media and social platforms available, class,
gender, and race. So, as you can see there is a lot going on that could vary in each drug addict’s
situation. Some of todays youth see the popular media and might be driven to think that
smoking and drinking and getting under the influence is cool, and therefore engage in those
activities to fit in, which can be problematic if that phase turns into an addiction. Other variables
such as class can also have an effect on the likelihood of forming a drug addiction, people from
lower income societies have less access to healthcare and are more likely to smoke, and use
illegal drugs, and even drink more alcohol. And although we know this problem exists here at
home, it is also a worldwide problem regardless of where you live, in some places more than
others. “Addiction differs in prevalence and severity in different parts of the world. According to
the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 2.4 million people suffered from opioid use
disorder (1.8m prescription pain reliever, 344,000 heroin, and 241,000 both prescription pain
relievers and heroin) in the US, while over 12.4 million adults were alcohol dependent (2014).
Our people, culture, expertise and insight, coupled with our innovative technology and
stakeholder relationships, mean we are well placed to address patients’ needs around the world.
In Canada, as many as 200,000 people were estimated to be addicted to prescription painkillers
(2012), while in Europe there were potentially 1.3 million high-risk opioid users, the majority of
whom were heroin users (2014). In 2014, Australia ranked as the third highest country worldwide
for prescription painkiller misuse per year, and China has a potential unmet patient need – with
7.3 million people estimated to be dependent on opioids and 27 million people dependent on
alcohol (2014).” As shown on the website Indivior. One of the main reasons Drug addiction is
considered a problem is due to its association with violence and crime. “Heavy users of
stimulants, especially cocaine, amphet-amines, and methamphetamines, are much more likely to
com-mit crimes and be involved in violence than users of most other psychoactive drugs
(Lattimore et al., 1997; Nicosia et al., 2009). Part of the reason for this has to do with the effect of
the drugs: They are stimulants that can make people aggressive and lead them to feel overly
confident, paranoid, and impulsive.” (Sullivan2015).
The stereotype that surrounds someone with a drug addiction is probably one of the things that
keep an addict from reaching out for help. The stereotype is typically one with a bad
connotation and it is made even worse through movies and the media. “For generations, this
combination of personal shame and public stigma has produced tremendous obstacles to
addressing the problem of alcoholism and other drug addiction in America. Today, the stigma of
addiction is seen as a primary barrier to effective addiction prevention, treatment and recovery
efforts at the individual, family, community and societal levels. Addiction stigma prevents too
many people from getting the help they need.” According to the Hazelden Betty Ford
foundation. One of the stereotypes I think of when I think of a drug addict, is that someone who
has had some sort of trauma in their life and is trying to deal with it by using drugs to forget.
Another type of stereotype I associate drug use with is typically that of someone who is involved
in gangs, crimes, and other illegal activity. However, I also know that it can affect everyday
people with normal lives that are simply depressed or unhappy or trying to escape their own
reality. After reading more into this topic, I am becoming more aware of the things that cause
drug addiction and the way it harms people, regardless of gender, class, or the influence around
them.

SOC 213 Final Project Guidelines and Rubric
Overview
The field of sociology presents a unique perspective to viewing the world’s social problems. Social problems tend to be viewed solely as individual constructs
and responsibilities, but sociologists take a deeper dive into the complex set of variables driving the development of these problems using various theoretical
perspectives. As these problems surface in individual lives, the workplace, and communities, a sociological perspective is valuable for providing a framework
for deeper investigation of variables and limiting personal biases when analyzing problems.
In this project, you will play the part of a sociologist who has been requested by your national community to craft a proposal to the potential funder, the
Department of Health and Human Services. You will write the proposal by conducting research on the social problem and thinking about how to limit your
personal biases when later analyzing the social issue, you will analyze the problem from a sociological perspective, outlining the influential variables and the
local and global impacts of the problem, and finally suggest a potential solution.
In this assignment, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following course outcomes:
ï‚·
ï‚·
ï‚·
ï‚·
Analyze contemporary social problems on local and global scales by applying key theoretical perspectives
Analyze social variables and determinants for their influence in the development of contemporary social problems on a local and global scale
Suggest potential solutions that are aligned with best practices for addressing the negative impacts of social issues
Summarize how to limit personal biases in analyzing social problems
Specifically the following critical elements must be addressed:
I.
Introduction: In this section, you will summarize your proposal. Explain the contemporary social problem that you selected and discuss the relevance for
today’s society on a local scale. How does the issue present itself in the United States or in your local community?
II. Problem Description: Determine the most influential social variables and determinants leading to the social problem and justify your selections with
research.
A. Identify social variables and determinants that have influenced the development of the social problem and explain their influence. Support your
explanations with resources.
B. Explain how the social variables and determinants influencing the development of the social problem vary depending on whether the social problem is
local or global. What differences and similarities are seen between local and international influences of these social variables and determinants?
Provide specific examples.
III. Approach: In this section, you will sift through your personal biases, with the aim of limiting such biases in your later analysis.
A. Describe how people generally tend to talk about this social problem and how these approaches are problematic, supporting with resources. What
stereotypes, biases, and assumptions are at play?
B. Identify and reflect on your own biases and assumptions around the issue and how these may affect your analysis of the issue. Everyone has certain
preconceived notions about social issues. What are yours, and how might they influence your analysis and interpretation?
C. Explain how you will limit your biases when you analyze the social problem. How can a theory help you limit your biases? Provide a specific example.
IV. Global Impact: So that the funder can understand the significance of the social problem, you will explain the local and global impacts using a sociological
perspective.
A. Provide an example of how the social problem manifests itself on a global scale. In what other country or countries does this problem present itself and
how?
B. Compare and contrast the existence of the problem locally versus globally. How is the way the problem exists locally similar to or different from the way
it exists globally?
C. Based on your comparison of the local and global manifestations of the social issue, what conclusions can you draw about the influence of globalization
on this specific social issue? How similar or different are the social issues and their repercussions, and what does that mean in relation to the impact of
globalization?
D. Select a key sociological theoretical perspective that best explains why there are similarities and differences in how the social issue presents on a local
and global scale, justifying your selection.
E. Apply your selected theoretical perspective to explain why there are similarities and differences in how the social issue presents on a local and global
scale.
V. Potential Solution
A. Compare at least one successful attempted solution with at least one attempted unsuccessful solution to the problem. From your comparison, why did
the successful solution succeed, and why did the unsuccessful solution fail? Support your findings with resources from the text or your own research.
B. Based on your previous research, what suggestion do you have for responding to the identified social issue? Specifically what do you suggest as an
action in responding to the social issue?
C. Explain why your suggestion is likely to be successful, substantiating with research. Explain how the suggestion takes into account your previous
research of attempted solutions and identified best practices.
