Sexual Encounters Risks Education is Poorly Taught in Today’s Society
Problem Statement
Sexual encounters present significant risks to children, especially adolescents who are at
the stage of exploring their sexuality. During this stage, the adolescents have higher curiosity levels
based on the physical and biological changes in their bodies. There is some relatively higher
attraction between adolescents of different sexes, which could prompt them to engage in sexual
activities. Inadequate commitment from their communities to the dangers of sexual encounters
expose adolescents to early pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases. Besides, sexual
encounters at an early age expose the participants to incidences of cervical cancer. Therefore,
communities must relook their role in teaching children about the risks associated with sexual
encounters and ways to enhance their self-control.
Cultural diversity plays a significant in influencing sexual encounters among adolescents,
increasing their sexually-related risks. Culture influences the behavior of people and the manner
they prioritize certain lessons for their children. According to Achen et al. (2021), sexual
socialization takes place within cultural contexts where children learn ideologies related to
masculinity and femineity. Such ideologies include roles, expressions., feelings, sexual desires,
and practices within a culture. Culture predetermines children’s sexuality through socially learned
environments from families, neighbors, and communities. Failure for communities to focus on
sexual encounters’ risk in teens influences misguided beliefs and knowledge about sexuality.
Instead of communities focusing on exploring and teaching risks associated with sexual
encounters, they concentrate on the importance of young people establishing their families. From
a cultural diversity viewpoint, some issue that needs to be looked at more thoroughly to prevent
sexual encounters risks is teaching young people and children about safe sex. Communities must
engage their children to understand that sexual activities motivated by pleasure pose them to early
pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases, and higher incenses of single parenthood. Besides,
children must be taught that sex should only be practiced within the confinements of the family
after marriage. Other lessons should include the importance of safe sex by ensuring that they use
protection and contraceptives to lower sexual risks.
Risky sexual behavior is a prevalent problem in society, especially among adolescents.
Many students in high schools in the United States engage in risky sexual experiences and
behaviors. In a 2019 survey targeting American high school students, it was noted that 38% of
surveyed students had experienced sexual intercourse, with 9% of them having more than one
sexual partner (CDC, 2021). Almost half of the students surveyed also reported they were engaging
in sexual intercourse without using a condom. The report also identified that 10% of the student
had never taken HIV tests or tests for other sexually transmitted diseases (CDC, 2021). Most
parents ignore their role in teaching their children about the sexuality of shame or doubts about
their children’s capacity to handle the topic. Most parents assume that talking about sexuality with
their children is equitable to giving them tacit permission for exploration (Ashcraft & Murray,
2017). However, earlier and constant communication about sexual risks to children delays their
sexual activity and promotes effective contraceptive use. Parent-children conversation on sexuality
can act as a buffer against irresponsible sexual behavior among adolescents.
Failure to engage children as communities in understanding sexuality exposes them to
significant risky sexual encounters. The problem persists because adolescents are excited to
explore their body changes and to prove they are adults. Such misconception exposes them to a
relatively higher level of sexual risks including HIV. Research shows that 24% and 38% of female
and male teens’ parents had never spoken about sexuality or birth control methods with their
children (Advocates for Youth, 2011). Many teens would prefer to get the lesson from their parents
because they believe they have the best interest for them in their discussion. Therefore,
communities must embrace sexual education in their teens to ensure they understand the risks
involved and practice responsible sexual behavior.
In conclusion, reduced commitment to teaching risks related to sexual encounters in
communities increases the chances of youths contracting sexually transmitted diseases or early
pregnancies. Culture influences many societies to avoid discussing the topic of sexuality between
parents and their children. Parents assume that such discussions are likely to influence their
curiosity and result in sexual behaviors to try the taught concepts. However, research has shown
that discussion of sexuality between parents and children delays their sexual exploration and
promotes safe sex. Cultural diversity supports parents to embrace sexuality lessons by identifying
their critical role in guiding their children to embrace responsible sexual behavior. Parents identify
that shying to teach their children exposes them to possible learning of sexual activities from
uncontrolled sources, exposing them to sexually transmitted diseases and early pregnancies.

Effective Global Communication
The purpose of this research is to identify notable global communications issues found
within organizational structures around the world. Communication is the driving force to
mission accomplishment and work-balance within diverse work groups. The first phase of this
research involves several peer-reviewed results from authors who have managed through
research to aid in the overall development of effective communication. The final phase of
involves solutions that are deprived from several assessments and surveys to confirm these
communication issues and challenges organizations continue to face.
Imagine a world from a global standpoint, that didn’t foster effective communication.
Communication is the key ingredient to a successful flow of information up and down an
organizations chart. In the management fields, there seems to be a large number of breakdowns
where communications from diverse channels are experiencing failures. This continues to show
signs that the upper leadership is lacking the skills necessary to lead an organization
successfully. Many businesses globally have embraced the usage of emails as their number one
form of sending or receiving information. Our society is made up of many organizations that are
mixed with different types of people and the need for a more culturally diverse organization is
popular on a global scale. A lack of effective communications within diverse work settings can
lead to unethical behaviors by leadership and a need to explore avenues for a different approach
is necessary. Although this is known to be a reliable method for delivery, mangers shouldn’t use
this tactic as the primary and only means to communicate within the organization. Learning

more about the differences in communication styles will promote a higher level of excellence.
Leadership, employees, and stakeholders should walk away from this research with a sense of
direction that they are able to pursue a healthy working environment despite their difficult
outcomes. This Capstone research paper will discuss a literature review amongst peer-viewed
authors, the diversity and ethical portions of cultural perspectives and inequities in the
workplace, various ethical implications, and a proposed solution to this issue as it relates our
general population globally.
Literature Review
Effective global communications has been the pulse of many organizations all over the
world for many years. Communications has become a very important aspect within the
workplace and ineffective communication continues to play a crucial role in success failures. In
the management fields, there seems to be a large number of breakdowns where communications
from diverse channels are experiencing failures. This literature review will discuss effective
communication methods, nonviolent communication trainings, job satisfaction importance, and
cultural diversity in the workplace.
Through a series of local case studies and models among various groups in Kenya authors
Awino & Steeves (2017) found ways to explain communications procedures. This research
focus provided readers with an introduction to communication from the basic level approach.
Management can now distinguish between the big communications issues that arise within an
organizational structure. Their work explained public relation issues on Western concepts as it
relates to the globalization aspect of communication. Learning more about the different
communications styles between diverse groups will help in a successful process of sending and
receiving of information whether it’s nonverbal or verbal. It is very important to consider the

common distractions when communicating with others. Common distractions commonly seen
through communications revealed by Awino & Steeves (2017) are common use of jargon,
taboos, and the differences in people’s perception and speech difficulties.
It’s critical to the flow of communications that leadership continues to foster effective
methods because it can cause problems in the long run for employment opportunities, home life,
and business relationships. When it comes to the use of jargon when speaking to someone who
has not kept up the terms can be very difficult and creates a barrier in real communication. This
can be difficult with someone who speaks your language and can only become more difficult to
communicate with someone whose native language is not even English. Important to limit the
use of jargon or cut it out all together to reduce the barrier in real communication globally.
In Wacker and Dziobek (2018) study on nonviolent communication training, they found
that a major reason for communication failures within an organization was to create an increase
in social stressors. Their study raises our awareness on how to understand culture changes
within the workplace. The aim that these authors were achieving for was to develop a way to
properly examine nonviolent training of several employees in the health fields.
Wacker and Dziobek (2018), briefly discussed ways an organization can use nonviolent
communications to their advantage by using four steps called observations, feelings, needs, and
request. They also found that organizations who uses the constructive culture approach
continues to be better performers with retention, communication, and customer service needs as
the potential to maintain sustained improvement across the board. In direct correlation with
previous research, Dziobek found that culture equality should be at the forefront of any
organizations building blocks. A direct result of Waker and Dziobek’s (2018) study proved that
while communication skills can increase, there is a decrease in empathic distress.

Another aspect of nonviolent communication that we don’t often hear about is how
people perceive internal communications and the common practices directly involved (Verghese,
2017). In Verghese’s study, data was collected through an online survey method. His survey
was structured and designed to gain a general perspective on internal communication within the
workplace. The study focused on how internal communication contributes to effective
communication with employees and makes them feel more of an asset to the organization. He
also talked about how practitioners relate to this function. Organizations can see that
communication is very important to their success while barriers continue to exist. Verghese’s
(2017) survey yielded results that were collected on methods to identify patterns in
communication issues. Internal communication is a very effective way to transmit information
do to the various communication strategies like vertical, horizontal, formal and non-formal.
Employee engagement is vital in today’s world since it has become a generation of millennials
and internal engagement is critical when transmitting information and making sure the company
stays in control of the information and where it came from. Lastly internal communication helps
support and empowers middle management by supplying the information and utilizing the
information to the people that actually do the work.
In order to properly understand previous studies, it’s critical for leadership to have a
complete understanding on how to approach these situations. Mihai (2017) study teaches us how
important it is for organizations to help raise awareness of communication in Corporate
Communication Management. She discussed several ways to develop the knowledge that is
required for mangers to be more efficient. However, there were significant differences in how
mangers perceived these common business practices through her study. Managers can learn
from this approach ways their communication failures impact an organization and how they can

build on the necessary skills required to balance their employee’s life. Similar to previous
studies, Mihai (2017) addresses communication strategies management can use in order to help
reshape their approach within the workplace. A way an organization communicates can make all
the difference of success or failure so it is important especially in management that they are
exposed to communication. New forms of communication are constantly forming do to
technology so it is important to take note and respond to this changes by getting necessary

processes for effective communication in universities where students and staff can learn their
strengths and gain more communication skills. The communication study conducted by them on
the students proven to be successful which gave them an effective initial component on ways to
properly build on communication skills in an organization through achieving their educational
goals. Through a portion of this study Stulz (2017) explained how effective communication
within an organization can increase their opportunities for mission success through training and
practice. Plemmons, Stulz, & Vroman (2017) made mention of how important the exchange of
information is vital towards mission accomplishment within any organization or group. These
series of commination failures can carry heavy consequences for management in the long-run.
Their research has the potential for people to gain the highest level of success and mission

Job satisfaction is very important within any organization. Leaders have a moral
responsibility to ensure employees, stakeholders, and customers are happy. In a recent study by
Smith, Patmos, and Pitts (2018), they examined communication channels, personality, and job
satisfaction for employees that teleworked. It was evident that their study targeted a specific

group which can lead to questions as a whole. Smith (2018), focused on keeping employees
engaged and satisfied while at work which increases productivity and work life balance. The
employee’s that this study covered ways to properly communicate within an organization when
employees are working remote. These employees will need to raise their level of understanding
as it relates to personality types in order to provide the greatest level of communication in this
diverse environment. This study also revealed a critical moderating effect for phone and video
methods of communication. This research posed several limitations for future research. One of
the main limitations was found during the data collection phase which didn’t show anything
between teleworkers and non-teleworkers.
Another aspect of a global perspective on communication failures was found through Dai
and Weng’s (2016) examination. The purpose of this study is to provide readers with a clear
understanding on the global perspectives of intercultural communication within organizations.
Globalization interaction continues to pose cultural identity challenges in the world of
communications. In order for us to maintain a promising future we need to establish more global
ethical standards in communication. Dai and Weng (2016) explained the different life
experience we face based off of the cultural norms within our society and how easy it is to keep
employees happy. Through their research it’s possible that the future of globalization will yield
a clearer understanding of intercultural communication because it’s forever changing. For
example, a manager who may communicate in a way that has a demeaning tone will probably
leave the conversation blind to what has truly happened. Those are the types of behaviors these
articles want us to stay away from. Overall, this study demonstrates that there are factors
associated with this type of communication and the overall management of how people deal with
cultural diversity is important.

The intent of this study by Habashi (2016) is to provide an understanding of
communication among Hungarian citizens an through an investigation using all facets of the
Hungarian culture it was noted that there is a general misunderstanding in how communication is
supposed to be aligned within an organization. His research expounded on the cultural effects
between good communication and bad communication which is why effective communication
must be a top priority and focuses on the global impact. Other researchers may disagree with the
data collected due to the pool and nature of this research. There is always potential for bias
thoughts in other’s work, but we can learn a lot from this journal on how important effective
communication is from a global and cultural aspect. Learning what cultural diversity means in
the workplace can help organizations lean toward a more productive environment as noted by
Habashi (201). We can learn that communication within a given culture is different. Habashi
(2017) clearly serves as a global vernacular for a certain ethnic group and places meanings which
can show us how to deal with diverse misconceptions in the workplace.
In the conclusion of conducting this literature review, we can all agree that effective
communication has remained an important practice and standard for many organizations.
Leadership must pay attention to nonverbal, hear the emotion, avoid negative body language and
promote job satisfaction within their corporations. Through the different studies and
examinations of these peer-viewed authors their focus remains the same across the board. It
reviewed a large scale of applications that organizations can use as tools to help reshape their
organizations. While some of these studies may seem bias in general areas they do offer a clear
insight on the importance of communication. We can see how the different angles of how
society perceives the importance of communication and it will continue to have a defined impact
on communication with the pulse of any company. Management teams must continue to foster

lasting relationships with their employees and partnerships. We will now move into the different
cultural perspectives and workplace inequalities seen today.
Cultural perspectives and Inequities
Leaders in diverse organizations must act fairly and clearly understand the cultural
differences they have within the diverse groups that fall within their realm of leadership.
Employees in diverse organizations have a different way of interpreting the various forms of
communication. These behaviors has the potential to affect how they deal with conflict
resolution, make daily decisions, and communicate up and down the chain of command. Internal
and external customers are very important to an organization’s positive flow. The contributions
from both affected groups can create a successful balance when quality leadership is your
number one priority. This is why leaders must embrace diversity because it has the ability to
promote teamwork on a global scale. The world is filled with vulnerable populations of people
that suffer from certain risk factors they have experienced in life. These vulnerabilities can be
contributed to their lack of resources, long life opportunities, and given rights within society as
mentioned by author Gitterman, 2014).
These are all reasons why organizational management must embrace diversity in an effort
to establish great working relationships with their employees. This lack of cultural diversity
continues to affect vulnerable and disenfranchised groups like low-income working class citizens
while having little effect on the more dominant populations of the upper class citizen pool as
found during recent studies conducted by Pritchard (2001). Understanding the type of diversity
climate within an organization is going to play a huge role towards encouragement or possible
constraints towards team effectiveness. It’s going to take a little more than climate control to

achieve this higher goal towards job satisfaction for workers directly involved (Hajro, Gibson,
and Pudelko, 2017).
The ethical issues found with vulnerable and disenfranchised groups like minorities,
people with disabilities, our children, rural, and urban populations can be contributed to the lack
of resources, opportunities, and given rights these groups have in our society. Several policies
that are drafted within organizations aren’t necessary aligned with these key issues that are often
experienced at the lower levels. Managers must develop a normal practice for understanding
ethical principles in which their good practice decisions are clear and concise to their employees
as an action strategy (Kapstein, 2008).
Many of these ethical issues can come from a series of things within an organization.
Common ethical issues found in situations where global communication failures become a factor
in the workplace are cross-cultural differences and cultural inequities when managers attempt to
address this problem. When we explore the world of people who are not as fortunate as other
and they maybe accustomed to a lot of money. These individuals will eventually start to look at
himself/herself as the master of the world. This could lead to a series where they start to develop
behaviors inside the business that are unethical to all parties involved (Miller and Blackler,

perspective, the use of Hofstede’s cultural dimensions theory model was appropriate and very
helpful. Hofstede’s Cultural Values Framework teaches us that if we don’t understand and

From a global perspective on communication failures were contributed to the lack of
people’s understanding of how important intercultural communication is within organizations.
Many of this countries global interaction continue to pose cultural identity challenges in the
world of communications where ethics is a topic of concern for management, employees, and
stakeholders. The stability of effective communications depends on our ability to maintain a
promising future through the establishment of global ethical standards in communication (Dai
and Weng, 2016).
Communication serves many functions within our society make-up. This perspective
focuses on a person’s social interaction in the workplace within the community. My own cultural
perspective on a lack of effective communication in the workplace is due to leadership’s inability
to adapt, properly train, and adopt cultural diversity standards that all employees can learn from.
The rise towards a general understand of global communication is if embrace correctly will
improve leaders assertiveness and promotes cultural diversity which leads to mission success.

Ethical theories that can be used to help reshape an organization that has feel to ethical
issues and use absolutism and utilitarianism to help address their concerns. The reason why is
because absolutism represents unethical behavior is wrong in the workplace and it doesn’t
conform to ethical values (Jeffrey, 2017). Utilitarianism can be used to help properly trained,
effectively communicate, and re-enforce equality within the workplace is the absolute right thing
to do. Social responsibility is supposed to be the driving force to help set positive tones for our
employees and consumers (Utilitarianism, 2017). I was able to witness through my research that
one of my groups presented evidence of understanding the major differences between the climate
and culture was the roadmap to performance achievement (Jeffrey, 2017).
The overall significance of identified through this research, is that leaders of diverse
organizations must adopt ways to foster a more cultural driven aspect of management in order to
show all employees and shareholders that they are important to the mission of the organization.
Some key themes that have emerged though my research are the common vulnerability of certain
groups and how it’s possible for them to fall in this category. All of these issues relates to
effective communications on a global scale, because it will begin to show how a particular group
can suffer forms of inequality due to their vulnerability factors in which many have no control of
(Brown, 2013). Diversity in the workplace is a good thing for organizational growth. Diversity

brings valuable experiences, true employee strengths, productivity, and responsiveness to help
change things that are to be considered as weakness. Some common ground where leadership
can help promote effective communication can be to use nonverbal communication, engaged
listening, and respectful tactics. Without quality leadership it will be impossible to help guide
your force to be effective workers internally with communication resulting in possible failure to
your external environment (Earl, 2004). Most employees are able to grow through personal
development in a more diverse workforce. The outcome can and will always be great to learn
from many different cultures (Miller and Blacker, 2016).
Effective communication shares a direct link to the ability to improve work-life balance
through means of creating positions which allows remote employment. This trend is probably
one of the least adaptably processes for the employees more so than the managers. This has
proven to be one of the highest areas of a loss of communication because they are being left out
of correspondence. This culture has been formed because many people tend to forget about
things if it’s out of sight. Mangers with these types of situations must develop some form of
technology standard that will work for both office and remote employees (Eunson, 2007). The
social aspect of this issue can be contributed to the lack of dialogue between executives and their
teams on a consistent basis. This is where management can use ethics as a means to avoid trust
issues with their employees internally and partners externally which can further advance my
proposed solutions.
Proposed Solutions
My proposed solutions presented from this research on common communication
failures and issues in the workplace begin with management techniques. Leaders must find ways

Some successful strategies that can help with communication issues would be to hold
meetings, follow-up, and don’t be a leader that makes false promises. Employees and
stakeholders are always watching so it will be necessary to practice what you preach in this
environment. Everyone involved must understand that the flow of information can become
interrupted which has the potential to result in negative consequences. It would be in the best
interest of leaders to adopt a form of internal communications when it comes to sharing,
developing relationships, and constructing an organizational culture and standards that everyone
can relate to.
One inevitable aspect of ineffective communication in our global force can be contributed
to lack of understanding of culture diversity within an organization or group. Bowden and Russo
(2017) found this to be relevant in their study of how to achieve real culture change in your
organization. Most of the normal cultural diversity differences we face are due to traditions,
beliefs, values, and religious observances as noted within the structure of this examination. This
study raises our awareness that c culture equality should be at the forefront of any organizations
building blocks. Bowden (2017) noted that it is critical to mission success for leadership to
understand culture changes within the workplace in an effort to maintain sustained improvement
across the board. Through his research we can conclude that an organization who uses the
constructive culture approach continues to be better performers with retention, communication,
and customer service needs.

It was very helpful to find through this research that there were several findings that have
the potential to lead to a more equitable solution for the promotion of diversity practices in
effective communications for organizations in the future. These problems are very complex
especially when there are several stakeholders directly involved.
The need to develop solutions to these issues is only temporary, because as organizations
begin to solve one issue several more will eventually arise. This is why it’s a must for leadership
to become critical thinkers. One strategy that can be very useful in a diverse workplace is the
possibly of conducting self-surveys internally that can help leadership gain a general perspective
on internal communication within the workplace. Through this study you will see how internal
communication contributes to effective communication with employees and makes them feel
more of an asset to the organization (Verghese, 2017).
A workplace that fosters diversity has the potential to improve at the baseline and build
on their working environment. Conducting performance appraisals is very important for
company growth as it tracks or reviews an employee’s performance over a period of time and
this can be used as a form of effective communication within. When employers inform their
employees on what is expected of them their productivity will tend to rise and that is why it’s
important for them to know where they fall out towards success. Performance appraisals can
also help employees understand just how much their leadership cares about their well-being and
not only performance. Most people tend to be more loyal to the mission when this is understood.
This process can help supervisor’s develop ways to increase their retention efforts and overall
morale within their organizations. It should be every organization’s goal to establish effective
diverse programs that can contribute to the fairness and encourages unity (Marquis, 2007).

Other helpful strategy organizations can use to help promote diversity in the workplace
when communicating with employees and stakeholders would be to use structure and to operate
in a manner in which it promotes diversity. Barriers are always going to exist; however it’s very
important for leaders to embrace them. The alignment of an organization can be critical to its
overall success, so it’s recommended that organization align their different panels with different
culture backgrounds to help minimize the misconception of discrimination. This can also help
with common communication issues from a diversity perspective.
Organizations can learn from focusing on their demographic diversity which
encompasses a wide range of common workplace issues like continuing education, different
attitudes, and overall experiences (Verghese, 2017). This proposal has the potential to assist in
the developing of employees and partner relationships world-wide. These findings may be
useful in building stronger communication practices and standards that are related to a more
cultural diverse work setting in the near future (Men and Stacks, 2014). These sources’ studies
have the potential to increase the future’s progress of effective communication and promote a
balance approach in the workplace. It was noted in the 2017 Performance & Accountability
report that agencies who promoted retention, job satisfaction, effective communication, effective
leadership, and a positive organizational climate had a rise in their overall development with a
target of 82% and an actual rating of 84% across the board (gao.gov, 2017). At the conclusion of
this proposed problem and the given solutions on ineffective communications, I would hope that
by using the sources selected the general consensus is still that communications is a very
important aspect within the workplace.

Throughout this paper we have discussed ways effective communications can become
more of an assets within the workforce, I’ve provided my cultural perspective on the different
diversity issues for vulnerable and disenfranchised groups, and development a working strategy
that can contribute to equality in the workplace. There is no value in promoting individual
interest, which is why managers must act fairly and clearly understand the cultural differences
they have within diverse groups. Communication is vital and must be effectively managed in
order to achieve success and mission completion. When communication is effective
management tend to foster lasting relationships with their employees boosting awareness, morale
and efficiency within the workplace.
These are things that can be fixed through training programs, incentives, sharing of
information, and basically making your employees believe in the mission. Communicating
effectively among culturally diverse groups is necessary for the growth of our future and the
noted ethical and diversity concerns outlined in this paper are worthy of future study. Leadership
must understand the value and qualities of the entire team whether they come from within, or
outside will help develop you as a leader resulting in profitable outcomes for the near future.
The global spectrum in the management field is depending on executive engagement in
order to continue to promote operational efficiency within their organizations. These are things
that can be fixed through training programs, incentives, sharing of information, and basically
making your employees believe in the mission.
This study will further advance communication
research by helping leaders of organizations develop ways to enhance their personal
communication techniques while creating ways they can communicate more effectively with
their partners.
