Discussion 1

As you learned in Week One there are many theories, models, and approaches that influence how you plan and design the curriculum you will use to meet the needs of diverse learners. One of the most important elements to consider is the connection between developmental milestones and curriculum planning. The developmental characteristics of children you work with will influence the planning and design of the curriculum that is taught.

Week 2 Discussion: Curriculum Self-check Interaction (Links to an external site.)

.

In your initial reply,

Describe the connection between developmental milestones and curriculum planning.

Discuss what you think will be the most challenging piece of bringing developmental milestones into the curriculum.

Evaluate how using developmental knowledge to create curriculum will allow you to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Provide an example of how you will do this for one of the ages and domains shared in section 4.3 of your course text.

Discussion 2

Once you have identified the strengths and areas of need for the students, it is time to begin planning lessons so that you can bring your curriculum to life. The driving force behind your lessons will be your standards. Two types of standards that must be taken into consideration when working with young children are early learning standards (developmentally based) and academic standards (learning based). Once you determine the standards for your lesson, you will create developmentally appropriate objectives for the students to meet.

to focus on in your discussion

In your initial post,

Differentiate between early learning and academic standards.

Examine the role of early learning and academic standards, including how they can be used together, in creating developmentally appropriate learning objectives and curriculum

Develop the goals, standards, and objectives of the

for the classroom you chose from the

book in the preparation section. The goals, standards, and objectives for this lesson must have a play or creative arts focus. Copy and paste these three sections of your lesson plan template into your initial response.

You will further develop this lesson in Week Three and include it as part of the thematic unit that you create for your summative assignment in this course. With this in mind, you will want to choose a theme for this lesson that you will stick with throughout the course. Some examples of themes might be cars, bugs, habitats, and space.
