1. . Which specific cognitive and emotional abilities are likely to be most important for FBI
special agents? Explain
The FBI agents are law enforcement officers who investigate criminal activities at the government
level. Despite the job being physically demanding, the FBI agents also need cognitive and emotional
capabilities to perform their work efficiently. Cognitive capacities are those abilities associated with
the acquisition and use of knowledge in resolving particular problems. They include verbal,
quantitative, reasoning, spatial and perceptual. On the other hand, emotional intelligence are those
abilities that entail the use of emotion while engaging with others (Colquitt 2019). EI is crucial in jobs
in high demand of emotional labor, which is the procedure of managing and controlling feelings and
expressions to accomplish the dynamic requirement of a job. Other varieties of emotional intelligence
are self-awareness, additional awareness, emotional regulation and the use of emotion. Cognitive
abilities are perceived essential to possess as the FBI, particularly when interrogating suspects, can tell
the suspect is lying. Emotional regulation is also vital as it allows an agent to convey a contrary
emotion while feeling differently.
2. . Identify the specific physical abilities that are assessed in the FBI’s annual physical
fitness test. Describe the responsibilities of special agents for which these abilities are
likely to be most important.
Physical ability is the capability to perform duties demanding energy, strength and such attributes.
These physical abilities are evaluated thoroughly in the FBI’s physical fitness tests like a timed 300meter sprint, the maximum number of pushups and the number of sit-ups in one minute. Duties like
planning a sting operation and chasing down a wanted suspect need all the different types of physical
abilities. Dynamic sting and stamina are significant to carry out a sting operation whereby the FBI
orchestra carries out operations against those people committing illegal acts (Colquitt, 2019). Dynamic
strength is a crucial ability required to carry out these duties as it enables them to exert muscular force
repeatedly or continuously with time. Also, stamina ability plays a vital role in performing those duties
since it allows them to continue maximum effort needed overtime. Hence, a physical fitness test is
required to evaluate their physical abilities to keep up with the duties on their job scope.
3. How might the frequency of various special agent responsibilities make it important to test
for physical abilities (but not cognitive or emotional abilities) on an annual basis? Explain.
Special agents’ duties in their work scope are pretty diverse. Considering they have to address
criminal activities like domestic and international terrorism, foreign counterintelligence, cybercrime,
organized crime, white-collar crime and violent crimes. They are required to possess physical abilities
like dynamic strength, strain and explosive strength. Irrespective of the demanding physical
requirements in this job, age can cause a setback as it believed that job performance reduces with
increasing age. Hence, the frequency to test their physical fitness is highly significant to ensure they
are still capable of keeping up with the challenging duties and avoid the possibility of work injuries in
the aspect of these duties. Emotional abilities are as important as physical abilities, ensuring their
ability to manage their external environment in a highly stable mind, adaptability to change, and
resolve problems through proper decision-making (Colquitt 2019). The duties of special agents are
both physically demanding and also emotionally demanding. Hence, emotional labor is also crucial
for them to control their feelings to fulfill the goals and expectations of their job scope. They need to
use emotional labour techniques.

One of the critical abilities appropriate for my dreams is social knowledge; this is the ability
that will help me evaluate and comprehend the social environment concerning social policies, which
are crucial to enhancing social skills and behaviour. To develop social skills, ahigh order of social
cognitive abilities is needed. This entails passing judgment on other people’s intentions, thoughts, and
emotions (Barisnikov & Lejeune, 2018). Social knowledge comprehends how the world is regulated
and organized and aids in making the correct judgment and comprehension of individual behaviors
and the behavior of others; this impacts the type of behavioral response in a given situation. Some of
the critical social abilities include empathy, which is the ability to comprehend other people’s feelings
genuinely, ideas, and thoughts. I also have proper communication skills whereby I can give my views
(Barisnikov & Lejeune, 2018). This entails active listening and non-verbal; abilities, which are crucial
in my career field. After I interact with the customers, I can learn and enhance my functional listening
skills, which help solve any problems being faced with customers problems. Further they enable me
to interact with the rest of the employees and engage in the company’s discussions.
