RE: Discussion – Week 7

COLLAPSE

Discussion 1: Evidence-Based in Design

One recently proposed health policy

is the Covid-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) telehealth policy

developed due to the pandemic.

Corona-virus, also

C

ovid-19, is a

severe

acute respiratory disease with extremely high transmission pathogens. The highly fatal respiratory disease

emerged

towards

the

end of 2019 in China Wuhan. Still, it later spread rapidly to all parts of the world through contact of persons and surfaces with the disease micro-organisms

(

Holland & Knight 2022).

Efforts to

contain

the disease proved futile as it spread worldwide, threatening population health and public safety. During

the pandemic’s peak, the certified health providers were allowed to prescribe via telecommunication measures concerning

the pandemic with the

avoidance

of in-person visits for medical assessment.

Telehealth

formulation proved handy because of the nature of Corona-virus high transmission levels

, therefore,

requiring the population to

maintain

less contact among people.

Government directives in measures to

contain

the virus spread ordered physical attendance of all learning institutions. Employers followed suit to downsize their employees to adhere to social distancing rules.

The telehealth policy

fac

ed

initial implementation challenges since not all geographic regions were interconnected with the proper network to

facilitate

communication

, especially the extremely marginalized regions

(

Watkins &

Neubrander

2022)

. Patients may now access healthcare services from marginalized regions due to the enhancement of modes of communication and internet connectivity. T

he policy has

assisted

the population in containment, recommendations

,

and medical prescription.

Nonetheless, telehealth policy has proven

worthy

and a solution to the patients’ health requirements during the pandemic’s peak.

This technology has

provided

speedy access,

cost-effective

,

timely

, and informative means to healthcare.

It also was helpful in remotely-located

patient monitorin

g

and

helping

chronically ill patients manage their current condition to alleviate suffering

(Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality 2020)

. There are a few risks

with

telehealth

, such as creating a compromise in healthcare standards. Therefore, the health system leadership’s role is to realize that the telehealth policy has been of significant

help

to the health system.

C

onsequently, there is

a requirement

to standardize the information dissemination through telehealth to patients to ensure quality

patient-centered

services.
