Format of the Paper – 3 marks
1. Your term paper should appear as a formal submission with consistency in style and format

1. Cover Page: .5 mark
2. Font size (12 Times New Royal with 1.5 spacing): .5 mark
3. Consistency (in subheadings, numberings and/or writing style) 1 mark
4. Language (not more than 3 errors in spelling/grammar): 1 marks
Essential Elements of the Paper
1. Abstract (5 lines minimum – could be one line for each of the following) – 2.5 marks
a. Introduce the paper/topic (what does the paper talk about?): .5 mark
b. Mention the purpose (how it is related to the course theme?): .5 mark
c. State the procedure/style (how have you written it?): .5 mark
d. Summary of the paper (no details required.): .5 mark
e. Significance of the paper (how can studying the selected activity topic benefit you in this
course?): .5 mark
Note:

2. Introduction (8 lines minimum) – 3 marks
a. Explain the topic: 1 mark
b. Write the purpose/rationale (what will you gain by writing about the subject?)1 mark
c. Explain the style of your study/writing (e.g. whatsourcesyou have used, how you found
them and how you have used them).1 mark
Note:
a. You are allowed to have or not to have sub-headings. For instance you can do the above four
things under sub-headings, Introduction, Purpose, etc.Otherwise you can do everything as
separate lines/paragraphs without any sub-headings
b. You can change the sequence of the above elements. For instance you can state the style first
and then the purpose
3. Discussion (15 lines minimum) – 4 marks
a. Discuss others’ opinions you have found on your chosen subject: 1 mark
b. Offer yours opinions (agreement or disagreement with the above):1 marks
c. Give analysis (justify your opinions. Why do you agree or disagree with others’ opinions
and how is that related to what you have learnt in the course? Do you have any
different opinions altogether?):2 mark
Note:
a. You are allowed to have or not to have sub-headings. For instance you can do the above
sub-headings
4. Conclusion (8 lines minimum) – 3marks
a. Rephrase the full abstract (including the purpose): 1 mark
b. Provide summary of the discussion (including your opinion and its justification): 1 mark
c. Mention some possible research topics that come out of your paper (what kind of topics
you or someone else can derive from your paper and do another research.): 1 marks

Instructions:
1. Find a scholarly article (not a common blog or website) on the topic of Islamic
ethics and morality to write the minimum of 200 words about your overall
impression of it. You do not have to read the whole article. Just skim it, check
the introduction, conclusion etc.
2. You may do this activity as a group or individually, but everyone must submit
their answers separately on the Blackboard
Rubric:
Format: 0.2 point
Clearly typed answers according to the specified number of words (not exceeding 2
pages), with 12 font size and 1.5 spacing.
Understanding issue/theme: 0.2 point
Writing shows clear understanding
Presentation of ideas: 0.3 points
Writing explains the issue with consistency by presenting examples and evidences
(examples and evidence can be from your life experiences)
Language: 0.3 point
Less than 3 errors in either or both, the spellings and the grammar
