Instructions:
Please note that your references must be approved by the instructor.
· This paper is based on the integration of 4 peer-reviewed journal articles from at least
3 academic disciplines (and a total of 8 references) that are required on a reference
page. There should be 10 full pages not including the Title Page, The Abstract page and
the References page.
Abstract
· appears after the title page but before the paper.
· a short paragraph discussing your problem statement and your conclusion (the
deeper understanding learned through your integration).
Recommended Headings
· Headings should also be formatted in APA style 7th edition
· Please also use subheadings throughout the paper to show the reader how the
paper is organized to explain and defend your thesis statement.
Introduction (2 pages expected)

Problem Statement (1 paragraph)
Rationale for the problem (1 para)
Justification for an interdisciplinary approach (1 para)
Identify the 3 (or more) academic disciplines selected are relevant (2 para)
Rationale for each of the selected disciplines (1 para)
Literature Review (6-7 pages expected)
· The beginning literature search is a starting point. You may not actually use all
journal articles found. Update your reference list to refine the paper.
Perspective from Discipline 1 (Ex: Sociology)
· Introduce the Discipline · Introduce the article(s) you selected to represent this
discipline · Authors’ conclusions and insights on the problem
Perspective from Discipline 1 (Example)
· Your intended approach to the research
o
Often there is an assumption that people are poor because they deserve
that condition. This assumption leads to inherent mistrust and disrespect. In the
field of sociology, research suggests that there are numerous complexities
contributing to deep poverty and there is also evidence of exploitation that results
from lack of knowledge and time to secure available resources. This section of
the paper discusses the results of a study by Jane Doe and colleagues (2015)
that examine how residents in Chicago public housing experienced the recent
changes to building codes and safety measures.
Perspective from Discipline 3 (Ex: Economics)
· Introduce the Discipline · Introduce the article(s) you selected · Authors’ conclusions
and insights on the problem
Perspective from Discipline 4 (Ex: History)
· Introduce the Discipline · Introduce the article(s) you selected · Authors’ conclusions
and insights on the problem
Integrative Approach (1 page expected)
· Select one of four approaches (Ex. Problem Centering)
· Explain why this approach makes the most sense (use concepts from the course)
· Apply it (discuss concepts, context or something else….) between all the articles you
mentioned above.
· Strengths and limitation of the approach and of the disciplines you selected
Conclusion and Recommendations (1 paragraph expected)
· Lessons Learned about the problem
· Deeper Understanding on this problem from the Integration above
If there is not a better understanding, why not? What went wrong?
· Recommendations for researchers continuing to work on this problem
Reference page (References)
– 4 peer-reviewed journal articles from at least 3 academic disciplines (and a total of 8
references) are required on a reference page that is correctly formatted in APA style 7th edition.
