This case study demonstrates the application of change management inside Nestle Waters
Company. In addition, it discusses the company need for quality improvement which encouraged
its engineers to search for alternative system to collect and analyze their data. Read the case, by
using your critical thinking skills answer the following questions:
1- Explain the driven reasons for changing the quality documentation system in the Nestle
Waters. ( 1.5 mark )
2- Outline the change objectives for both Retail Manufacturing and Home and Office
Manufacturing units. ( 1 mark )

Question One
Change is inevitable within organizations across diverse industries. At Nestle Waters, change was
also inevitable in that the company had to change its quality documentation system for various
reasons, including the need to increase overall efficiency within its numerous manufacturing sites
(InfinityQs, 2021). Initially, the documentation system that Nestle Waters was using was
cumbersome and inefficient in that the company had to interrupt its normal operations to recover
indispensable data whenever abrupt attention issues arose (InfinityQs, 2021). Thus, changing the
quality of the company’s documentation system was necessary to increase efficacy in reviewing,
monitoring, and getting the needed data in real-time. Generally, the manual documentation system
that Nestle Waters was initially using is always inefficient.
Additionally, Nestle Waters’ change of quality documentation system was also driven by the need
for standardization. The company wanted to standardize one solution regarding its documentation
system across all its manufacturing units and facilities, thus supplementing its present IT
infrastructure (InfinityQs, 2021). It is also through this standardization of the documentation systems
that the company can now monitor and control its production processes across its numerous water
manufacturing facilities. Lastly, Nestle Waters’ change of quality documentation system was also
driven by the need to effectuate its decision-making processes (InfinityQs, 2021). As earlier noted,
the adoption of digital and quality documentation systems enabled the company leaders to have all
the needed information at their fingerprints, thus making it easy to make any decision. The Decision-
making process becomes more efficient when all the relevant information is at the party’s disposal
seeking to make the decision.
Question Two
Numerous organizations often carry out change processes with specific goals and objectives, which
was also the case at Nestle Waters. At Nestle Waters, the organization had change objectives for its
diverse manufacturing units (InfinityQs, 2021). For example, Nestle Waters’ change objectives for
its retail manufacturing unit included advancing all factories to the latest InfinityQs software release
and organizing the purchase of PCs required for workstations (InfinityQs, 2021). As per the case
study’s information, the company wanted to advance its retail manufacturing units using the latest
InfinityQs software because the software had mollified the company’s quality documentation and
analysis gauges. The software that Nestle Waters wanted to leverage also needed to be installed in
some computers, and this is why the company also had the objective of organizing the required PCs.
Other change objectives by Nestle Waters regarding its retail manufacturing units were to image the
newly acquired PCs to the Nestle Waters standard, install InfinityQs, and ensure that the project
leader possessed all the requisite permissions and rights to access the servers. The company had to
brand the newly acquired PCs to match its standards and even install the sought software that its
project leader could access, hence the need to grant him or her access rights. Nestle Waters’ change
objectives for its home and office manufacturing units included formatting prevailing servers and
installing InfinityQS and SQL folders on the servers (InfinityQs, 2021). Since the company was
changing its systems, there was a need to format its old servers to pave the way for the new ones and
even install the new software. Lastly, the other change objectives for the company’s home and office
manufacturing unit were to buy novel PCs and even offer requisite access authority and permissions.
Question Three
InfinityQS ProFicient system can control the operation processes because it computerizes data
gathering and examination processes even during the manufacturing processes. Through this
computerization, the system gives concerned individuals with analyzed data through which such
individuals can decide on whether or not to make manufacturing improvements before it is too late
(InfinityQs, 2021). Thus, the system controls the operation process because it offers analyzed data
results from which decisions of improving or changing operational processes can be made.
Again, the system has the capacity to collect plant floor operations data, analyze it, and even offer
response suggestions through its real-time alarms. Through the system’s alarms, individuals can
make necessary operational changes before the manufacturing process becomes faulty, and this is
what is termed as the system’s real visibility over operation processes (InfinityQs, 2021).
Additionally, the InfinityQS ProFicient system, through its inline or operational monitoring abilities,
can track and determine various optimization processes such as the ones through lightweight bottle
initiative, where it determines the amount of bottle testing to be done.
Question Four
Leadership and management are critical in initiating and sustaining change within organizations and
corporations. Good leadership and management result in good initiation and sustaining of change
within organizations and corporations, while bad leadership and management jolters the change
(Griffith-Cooper and King, 2007). It is out of fulfilling the requisite management roles that good or
management and leadership can be evident. In this case study, the management executed its roles
effectively, resulting in identifiable success. Such management roles in the change process included
locating the issue that needed to be addressed through the change process, aiding in all stages of the
change implementation, and funding the change process.
Management of Nestle Waters had the role of locating the issue to be addressed through the change
process, which they fulfilled by identifying the existing manual documentation system as the source
of the issue that needed to be addressed. In any organization, the existing management has the role of
diagnosing the source of their issues that need to be addressed by instituting requisite changes. The
company’s management also had the role of helping in all stages of change implementation, and such
stages, as per the case study, included planning, implementation design, and project management
(InfinityQs, 2021). The role is evident since, as per the case study’s facts, all the teams (the
company’s IT management team and expert team) were involved in the above-identified change
implementation stages. Conversely, the change process required some financial resources since there
was seeking expert services and purchasing of novel software and PCs. Without the company’s
management team, these financial resources that were needed to facilitate the change process could
not be obtained since the management team is responsible for funding authorization, hence their role.

The teams worked closely during all stages of the implementation, including planning, implementation
design, and project management. From an IT standpoint, the implementation focused on two separate
manufacturing units: Retail Manufacturing and Home & Office Manufacturing. They spread the
implementation across 16 Retail sites, as well as eight Home & Office sites, and integrated them with
corporate headquarters.
The Retail objectives were to:

corrective action entries. Plant floor operators review, evaluate, and
respond to any events that occur—before they cause quality issues.
It is ultimately easier for the operator. Even with the
minimal computer skills many of the operators had in
the beginning, the overwhelming consensus is that they
prefer using InfinityQS over a paper system.
