MOG 1004 Assignment 2 Corporate Impact Study
Research Paper DUE December 17th, 2021 at 7:30PM EST (30%)
PARTNERED PROJECT – refer to class partner pairings in Moodle.
You have until December 12th to connect with your partner and advise if you are
requesting a change in pairing.
Reasons for change:
– Incompatible schedule
– No response from your partner to connect by December 12th
As studied and discussed in class, organizations need a detailed plan for implementing CSR
strategy into their operations. As with any operational plan, the background research, selection
of initiatives, stakeholder engagement, business case for moving forward, and step-by-step
implementation plan must be well thought out and designed.
In this final project, you will use all of the tools presented over this semester to design an
operational CSR strategic plan for your organization.
YOUR TASK:
Select an organization of your choice. You may use one that you or your partner
previously used in Assignment 1. Whether it is a small, medium, or large-scale business,
the steps of this task are the same. In order to complete the framework document
appropriately you will perform (research) the following tasks. Remember that all documents
must be evidence based, so you will be required to do a lot of research. Do not forget to cite
all of your sources in APA in text format. APA guide posted on Moodle for your reference.
PART A: CONDUCT A CSR ASSESSMENT
1. Conduct a CSR assessment for the business/industry. Develop the business case for
CSR and review their current processes and operations.
2. Conduct a thorough stakeholder analysis to identify the major concerns for each
stakeholder group and the impact of the group on the business. [Note: you have already
done this step in assignment 1]

THE REPORT
This is a formal report that is intended to be an official document for review by the management,
shareholders, owners, etc. of your business. How you choose to design it is up to you, but here
are some tips:
• The report should flow well and be easy to read. Consider this to be a report for the
president of your company – you will want to present the material in a clear, concise
paper. Do not include anything that irrelevant to the discussion. You may follow the
numbering system outlined in the assignment (i.e. Part A
– CSR Assessment, sub category would be Stakeholder Analysis, etc.)
• Appendices are fine, but you should not have the reader bouncing from the appendices
back to the text in order to follow the information.
• Information that requires lists and categories [like the stakeholder analysis] is often best
presented in a table so that comparison is easy. Paragraphs within tables are not
necessarily the best choice. Bullet points are fine when detailed explanation is not
needed but be careful to make sure that the reader would clearly understand the point
you are making.
• Presenting your personal opinion is not a valid means of explaining a point. Any
information you present must be evidenced based, which means that you will be
required to research everything! Make sure to review the Perdue OWL Guide to APA
citations that is included in the Moodle shell.
• You must research and cite all pertinent information for this assignment.
• As per all other assignments, marks will be deducted for spelling and grammatical errors
as well as informal use of language, and improper or missing citations. Spelling,
grammar, and sentence structure errors will be assessed at a loss of 2% per
unique error up to a maximum of 20%.
• Please make sure to see the next section for the Academic Integrity form that is to be
attached to this, and all, individual and/or group assignments.

Stakeholder Engagement
Stakeholder Engagement Assignment – Direction and Instructions.
PLEASE REVIEW THE ASSIGNMENT GUIDE PRIOR TO COMPLETION.
Choose one company of your choice. This company will be the same company you use for your
final assignment.
Some considerations when choosing your company:

Newer companies tend to have less information, making it harder for you to collect the appropriate
amount of data.
Choose a company you are familiar with or interested in. This will make completing your
assignment easier and/or more enjoyable.
DUE 7:30 EST on DECEMBER 8th, 2021
Opinion leaders from government, the private sector, and local communities play an important role in
shaping business strategy. A clear understanding of the stakeholders that influence, or are affected by,
our business is critical to the successful shaping of a CSR strategy. The following is a guide on how to
successfully engage with stakeholder groups.
For the purpose of this assignment, you will follow the steps below in creating the initial portion
of an engagement strategy.
STEP 1: DEFINE STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT
• Use the following questions to guide the discussion and build a strategy:
o Where can stakeholder engagement have the biggest impact on our operations? On our
strategy?
o What is our motivation for engaging? [i.e. Reacting to external pressures; changes in legislation;
developing business insights; shift in social issues and awareness; threats to our resources/way
of doing business; protecting our reputation; response to a crisis; seeking innovation; building
relationships; internal pressure for change; etc.]
STEP 2: STAKEHOLDER IDENTIFICATION AND MAPPING
1. Brainstorm your stakeholder groups without screening for influence. List anyone and everyone that might
have an interest in your objectives now and possibly in the future. • Questions to help push your
brainstorming beyond the obvious:
o Who are potential stakeholders from new markets? New technology? Who are our competitors’
stakeholders?
o What are new trends in sustainability? New regulations coming?
o Is our stakeholder group diverse? Are they influencers? Collaborators? Advocators? Objectors?
o Who are the loudest voices? [Hint – not always our biggest groups of stakeholders…..take a
peek at social media to see who’s communicating about issues facing your organization or
business practices]
MOG 1004 – CSR Assignment #1
Stakeholder Engagement
2. Analyze your list to understand the stakeholders’ relevance to your purpose and the influence they hold.
You can use the following criteria to help your analysis:
o Contribution: does this stakeholder have information or expertise that can be helpful to the
business?
o Willingness to engage: will the stakeholder be a part of the process?
o Influence: is their claim legitimate and how much influence do they have over the process?
Whom do they influence? You directly, government policy, your customers, community?
o Necessity of involvement: are they important to the process? Will they derail it or make it less
relevant if they are left out of the process?
3. After a list is comprised, identify a list for prioritizing your stakeholder groups. This could be based on
their level of interest, level of influence, power for negatively/positively affecting your business operations
or reputation, regulatory influence, etc.
4. Once identified, map the stakeholders on a matrix [provided below]
5. Use the matrix to prioritize the stakeholder.
o IDENTIFY CRITERIA FOR PRIORITIZING THE STAKEHOLDERS
[The criteria you are using should be clearly communicated in your assignment submission].
It could be based on their direct influence, influence over others, effect on the business, affected
by the business actions, etc.
6. FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS ASSIGNMENT, SELECT AND IDENTIFY YOUR TOP FOUR (4)
STAKEHOLDERS AND PROVIDE YOUR RATIONALE FOR SELECTING THEM.
7. Once selected, identify the issues that are important to them. You will use this as part of your
engagement strategy and explain their relevance to your engagement objectives.
o
Ex. Environmental activists = issue is concern with logging of mature/old growth forests.
STEP 3: IDENTIFYING SHORT- AND LONG-TERM GOALS FOR ENGAGEMENT
•
Now that you have your prioritized list of stakeholders, you must determine and clearly define your shortand long-term goals for engagement. Think about the information you would like to gain from them both
now and in the near/distant future. Consider all possible responses [you will not be able to anticipate
every response but you should have a good idea as to how it might go] and how you can make that
information useful to your CSR strategy and your business initiatives.
STEP 4: PREPARE FOR THE ENGAGEMENT AND CREATE AN ENGAGEMENT PLAN
•
Revisit your stakeholder map to identify the best ways to interact with your stakeholders based on their
position on the map.
•
The quadrants on the mapping matrix can correspond to the following engagement tactics [below].

• Select the type of communication means that will best suit your needs for engagement and briefly describe
the plan you will use to engage your top four (4) stakeholders.
At this point in an actual engagement strategy, you would implement, gather and assess feedback. The
information gathered becomes a foundation for your CSR strategy and extremely important to your plan. If
properly executed, the engagement strategy will keep you on track with your CSR goals and minimize the risks
associated with your endeavor.

COMPANY: Living your Values to Live your Best Life GROUP MEMBERS:
Rita H., Morticia A., Marilyn M. DEFINITION OF STAKEHOLDER
ENGAGEMENT
The definition of stakeholder engagement in our opinion, is a company’s attempt to communicate with
stakeholders to get their ideas, opinions, and levels of satisfaction with the company. According to Deloitte
(2008), the meaning of stakeholder engagement is as follows:
“… those groups who affect and/or could be affected by an organisation’s activities, products or
services and associated performance. This does not include all those who may have knowledge
of or views about the organisation. Organisations will have many stakeholders, each with distinct
types and levels of involvement, and often with diverse and sometimes conflicting interests and
concerns.” (Pg. 2)
It is important to engage stakeholders because when stakeholders participate in sharing ideas, make
suggestions, and give feedback, the company can find ways to improve their processes or practices. When a
company can get better, efficiency can increase.
