PEPR 1005: Career Exploration Assignment
For this assignment, you will choose a career path within kinesiology that interests you. The
assignment has 2 parts:
• Part 1: Answer the following questions with well-developed and thoughtful answers
o What path did you choose? Why did you choose this path?
o What degree is needed to pursue this path? What are the pros and cons of each
degree level in this path? For example, what are the pros and cons of having a
Bachelor’s degree in this particular area even if an Associate’s degree is the
minimum?
o What additional certifications and trainings can you pursue? What are the
advantages to holding these additional certifications and trainings?
o What are the job prospects in this field?
o Which national organization is most relevant in this career? What are the
advantages of a membership in the organization?
o What would you do in this profession to benefit others?
o How would you advocate for the profession?
o Write the paper addressing the above questions
â–ª This should be 2-3 pages in length (double spaced, 12 point font, 1 inch
margins).
â–ª Utilize sources such as your textbook, journals, magazines, web pages,
etc.
â–ª Be sure to cite your sources in a reference page and within your paper!
• Part 2: Interview someone in the field of study and ask them 5-10 questions that you
create yourself.
o These should not include the questions listed above, but rather, should be based
on your inquiry into the field.
o If necessary, you can ask them 1-2 questions to assist you with the first part of
the assignment, but these will not count toward the 5-10 questions that you are
creating.
o Write a summary of their responses making sure to include:
â–ª Their name and the time, date, and location of the interview
â–ª The specific questions you asked them
â–ª A substantial summary of their answer to each question. If their answers
are short and lack detail, be sure to ask follow up questions in order to
help you document more substantial information.
â–ª The summary should be 2-3 pages in length (double spaced, 12 point
font, 1 inch margins).
• Grading
o Substantial answers to part 1 questions
15 points
o Effectiveness of questions created for the interview
5 points
o Substantial summary from interview
15 points
o Grammar, flow, effective writing
10 points
o Quality references, reference page, outline
5 points

50 points
*** Extra credit opportunity: +5 points if your interview subject is not an employee of our College
or a family member. Be sure to indicate this when including the name, time, date, and location
