Major Research Paper
Minimum: 1000 words- Typed double spaced, font size 12.
Major research paper is an essay about the relation between religion (Christianity) and one of the modern
sciences.
You need to write your essay in your own words.
First of all, select a topic from the list of topics below. You can see the list of topics below.
The content of paper:
First, write an introductory paragraph to clearly state your selected scientific topic and the religious doctrine/view related to the topic. Also, you need
to mention that based on which one of the four models of the relationship between science and religion you will discuss the topic (See below Fourth).
For example, your topic is neuroscience and the religious doctrine related to it is the Christian concept/view of the human psyche. You will discuss the
topic based on dialogue as your selected model. This would be your thesis.
Second, explain the scientific theory/view/concept that you want to discuss in relation to the religion (Christianity). You need to clearly (in plain
language) explain the scientific theory/view/concept.
Third, explain the religious doctrine/view that is related to the scientific theory/view/concept you already explained. Explain how the scientific
theory/view/concept might relate to the religious doctrine/view. Do the scientific theory/view/concept and the religious doctrine/view seem compatible
with each other? Do they at odds with each other? To do this part, you need to clearly explain the selected scientific theory/view/concept and the
selected religious doctrine/view. You need to refer to the religious documents (e.g., the Bible) to discuss.
Fourth, you need to take a position about the relation between religion and science and apply it to the discussion of your selected topic. To do this,
you need to select one of the four models of the relationship between science and religion. These models will be discussed in the Week 12 lecture. The
models include conflict, independence, dialogue, and integration. Then based on your selected model, you discuss the relation between your selected
science (the selected scientific theory/view/concept and the religious doctrine/view. You need to address two questions in this part. 1) Why do you
choose your selected model? 2) Based on your selected model, how do you interpret the relation between your selected scientific theory/view/concept
and the selected religious doctrine/view.
Fifth, write a short conclusion which not only restates your thesis, but leaves the reader with something more, such a speculation on the broader
implications of the thesis.
You need to write your essay in your own words. To write your essay, you can use the materials we discussed in our class. However, you might
need to do some research and to use the contents of articles, books, and websites. Please note that Turnitin (plagiarism detector) is on and in this course,
we strictly follow Centennial Integrity policy. Please make sure you do the citations properly for any source you use in your paper. The citation format is
