Hello,
In this assignment, all you need to do is to find an image related to one of the following topics, and
write a short paragraph or couple of sentences about the image you chose:
– Industrial Revolution to the Victorian Era
– The Victorian Era
Please send me the image you choose before you start writing, so I can check that no one of my
classmates have the same image.
The second part: You have to comment on three images of my classmates:
Attached are the whole images of my classmates and their comments.
First Image:
Michael Thonet debuted his patented mass-produced, bend-wood furniture at the Crystal
Palace in 1851. This is a picture of the famous coffee house chair which is considered the
most successful mass-produced product in the world. Michael Thonet developed and
perfected his technique of bending solid wood during the 1850, but his handmade bentwood
pieces are timeless and remain favorite amount design enthusiasts. I honestly believe that
this beautiful and elegant chair is more popular today that it was before, do you agree with
this?
Second Image:
I shared this picture because I feel like the typewriter played an important part in spreading
new ideas and innovations throughout this time. Catalogs of products could be spread far
and wide. You didn’t have to bring the wagon with products to show people what you could
offer. I’ve used a typewrite before and while its not a computer, there’s nothing like it. Now I
know the typewriter isn’t a printing press, but I still think it plays a part in
spreading/documenting the changes happening in this time.
Third Image:
James Ritty’s cash register is one of many used inventions that came out of the Victorian Era. Our
registers today have evolved from the original model. Without a cash registered many of our shopping
experiences would be even longer. The checker would have to pencil each item by hand to keep the
inventory accurate. This design solves a problem for both consumers and business owners. Is Ritty’s
original idea of the cash registered the effect of our bustling consumerism today?
